Few games defined my childhood like ‘Homeworld.’ The space-age RTS game defined my love for the genre in ways not replicated since then. So you can imagine the collective Internet’s joy when Gearbox announced that Homeworld was receiving the “remastered” treatment.
Announced originally in 2014, Gearbox has been kind of mum on Homeworld Remaster Collection‘s progress. However, the developer presented some of the first gameplay footage at PAX South, as well as announced the game’s much anticipated release date. Homeworld Remastered Collection will release on February 25 at a price of $34.99. Gamers who pre-order the title will receive a 15% discount on Steam.
Homeworld was originally released in 1999 by Sierra and Relic Entertainment to much fanfare. It and its sequel, Homeworld 2 are regarded as some of the best RTS games in PC gaming history. Gearbox Software has endeavored to bring the classic space RTS to the modern operating system with updated high-definition graphics.
“Homeworld is among the greatest strategy games in history, and we’re very proud of the work our team has put into bringing this exceptional series to modern PCs,” said Brian Martel, Chief Creative Officer at Gearbox Software. “We received a lot of great feedback from the passionate Homeworld fan community, and we hope to deliver a game they – and new fans from around the world – can get lost in for countless hours to come.”
Players who purchase the game on Steam will also be given access to the Homeworld Remastered Collection Steam Multiplayer Beta when the game launches on February 25. In addition to the remastered textures and models, the game collection also features a fully remastered soundtrack and all-new voice overs by the original cast. Each game will also feature the classic version of Homeworld and Homeworld 2, completely playable on modern operating systems.
Stay tuned for more info about this ground-breaking RTS classic, as Legendarium Media will be following this game’s development. Are you excited for Homeworld Remastered Collection? Were you a fan of the original Homeworld games? Let us know in the comments below![Images via Gearbox Software]
