Mentor by John Evans
Against the shade,
Like a golden beacon,
You led me through,
The perilous night,
I embarked on to,
Inscribe my name,
On destiny’s carven monument-
And though I toiled,
Hard and long,
Often without,
A shred of purpose,
Your patient hand,
Bour my soul,
From hell’s tempestuous Odyssey.
If in days,
Which are to come,
Wise men sing of,
This marshal glory,
I would inform,
Them one and all,
That you are the mentor,
Of my life’s story.
