The Controversial Tauriel: Peter Jackson’s Film Addition to The Hobbit Canon by Astrid Tuttle Winegar

Tauriel: Love her? Hate her?

Like her? Love her? Loathe her?

Years ago when casting for the Hobbit films was first announced, my initial thought was “Who the hell is that?” I went to my various indices and guides, and discovered that I was right—this character didn’t exist in the Tolkien canon.

Therefore, she certainly didn’t exist in my cookbook either. She is an elf, however, so she will obviously eat whatever elves eat in Middle-earth. Tolkien really doesn’t write much about what elves eat—you might assume he does, but he actually only specifically mentions apples, wine, venison, and bannocks (which are otherwise known as oat-cakes). So, they are not vegetarians, but they do appreciate their greenery, unlike trolls.

But—a girl’s gotta eat!

What recipes do you think should be designed just for her?

I’d love to hear from you. Post your suggestions/comments BELOW, or if it is more convenient for you, go to FACEBOOK and post something on my timeline (while you are there, you can LIKE my page, then you can annoy your similar-minded friends with invitations to join this page—otherwise known as sharing). I’ll see what sounds like it has potential and make up a few delicious items. Be patient; it’ll take some time to develop new dishes.
