The Local reports that Mikael Persbrandt, who played Beorn in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, has been sentenced to 5 months in prison for buying 12 oz. of cocaine.
It appears that Persbrandt was among the names in “the dealer’s” contacts in this long running police investigation, “If it turns out an order was made, it was another person who used his phone,” Persbrandt’s lawyer insisted of his client who is one of twelve people that were indicted. The police investigation took place over several months with one kilogram of cocaine being sold to over 180 people.
“The offenses are serious because they relate to a particularly large amount of drugs, and form part of internationally organized activities undertaken on a large scale,” the prosecutor said.
Truly, a dark day in Middle-Earth… Hopefully Persbrandt can get the help he needs to recover from this. The fight against drugs and addiction is no joke. If you or someone you know may need help with addiction, visit this link to find a treatment center or professional advice in your area.
