extended hobbit editionBrace yourselves Tolkien fans! The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition was released on iTunes on October 22nd. It is now available on iTunes for $19.99.  The DVD and Blu-ray extended edition film will be available for purchase everywhere on November 5th.

“I’m thrilled that the Extended Edition will give fans the opportunity to experience certain key scenes in the film as they were originally shot, as well as an abundance of special features,” said Jackson. “It’s exciting to present this expanded and enriched version of ‘An Unexpected Journey’ to allow fans to fully immerse themselves in the movie, before seeing the second part of the trilogy.”

The extended version is a 5-disc set that includes 13 minutes of extra footage and extended scenes. Like with Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings film trilogy these will become the definitive versions for true fans. The Extended Edition includes nine hours of new bonus features and will be available just before the December 13 theatrical release of the second film of the trilogy, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

Also, following what fans received in the LOTR extended edition dvds, there will be nearly nine hours of special features, audio commentary with Peter Jackson and Philippa Boyens and the Appendices, a multi-part documentary that focuses on the many various aspects of the film. Who knows? Perhaps there will be Easter eggs hidden in these as well. Look out for those! The extended editions will be available in regular DVD format and Blu-ray. For a detailed list of all the special features go to The Hobbit Amazon page. Order your copy today!
