The fictional characters in a popular sitcom wake up to the realization that they’re not real—and the show is ending. Now, with CANCELLATION approaching, they must find a way to keep the show going or they will cease to exist.
That’s the premise behind the comedic Christmas film A Christmas Cancellation, directed by Justin Timpane.
A bit of fantasy is common in holiday films like this one, of course. We get angels in It’s a Wonderful Life, an inanimate object coming to life in Frosty the Snowman, flying reindeer in Rudolph—so why not fictional characters coming to life? Timpane’s film goes a little further, offering laughs, cheesy heart, and existential contemplation.
Ultimately, though, the film takes an encouraging look at what it means to enjoy feel-good entertainment and find moments of joy in the short time we all have here on earth.
A Christmas Cancellation is currently showing on Amazon Prime Video. Check it out here.
